Students will learn how to better reflect on their work. Instead of working for a good grade, they can work towards their own personal growth and development. In orchestra, students will be able to listen to their playing from the beginning of the year and their playing from the end of the year. They will be able to hear the difference and see how far they've come over the year.
This will build a reference for them to use in college applications. The good thing is that we can tweak some of the great things we already do and make it 21st century friendly. Various science topics can be revisited in each grade level such as adaptations in a certain environment (life on a planet, Squirrel Island, Dragon Genetics)Great ways to bring in social responsibility. Science also collaborates all the time. We could FaceTime with people in the real world field.
Students will take pride in the work they have created, take it to a deeper level, and share it with others. They are able to see their growth as they continue to add to their e-portfolio through the year(s).
I think it's great to have students reflect on their individual skill sets - these 21st century skills can have huge, positive impacts on our world in the future.
My take away: this is a way for students to work and develop in school without having to worry about a grade. Students can have something that can just reflect them as developing young people, something for which they can be personally proud, not just academically proud.
I am excited to see the students really take charge of their own learning when taught "21st century" lessons that can be applied to all aspects of life.
I think student's are always saying i'm never going to use this and don't connect on how school will help them in the real world. The ePortfolio is a way for student's to start thinking about how the skills they learn in school are going to be used in the real world instead of just an english paper or math project. It takes them beyond the content.
After adding several items to their ePortfolios, students will start to feel real ownership. This should be a positive and self-motivation experience for them!

E-portfolios will encourage student ownership of their learning. I think if students have their portfolio in their mind before they start the project, they will work harder to make the project better. I think they will also take pride in their work and enjoy seeing how far they have come.
E-portfolios will allow the students to reflect on their growth- intellectually, creativity, and working collaboratively. Hopefully, they will take the portfolio with them into their college applications and interviews to show recruiters their accomplishments.

The set up of the basic e portfolio seemed easier than I thought it would be. I think once we get student buy in this could show the students how much they have learned and grown. I believe that students may go into each project with a different mindset, thinking what 21st century skills they used instead of it just being about the specific content. It will be a change in mindset for everyone involved in creating these eportfolios.

This will allow students the opportunity to engage in more collaborative groups to benchmark their progress in classes. I love how the 21st century skills are no core-related, it is more cohesive amongst all of the competencies!

They can track their own growth and work toward improvement with a real purpose in mind. Hopefully it will serve as a source of pride in what they have accomplished and inspire them to always work toward improvement.
